So . . .GA6 and SC5 remain repub.
Okay. So what! In the last 7yrs the dems have lost well over a thousand seats across the board and now the GOP has control of BOTH the Senate and the HoR -- and now the WH. Yet, are we even close to REAL Obamacare repeal; or tax reform? No. Are we closer to REAL spending cuts or a Balanced Budget? Nuh-uh. How about the runaway costs of SocSec; any closer to any reform there? HAH!
So, excuse me for not popping the bubbly over the GA or SC "wins". I grade on actual legislative RESULTS - not merely on intentions. We get enough of that w/ the bullsh*t COMMON CORE education system.
That's my not-so-humble opinion!
Well Patricia, I so hope you are right!! Tomorrow shall we meet for an online sundowner to celebrate? If this does not happen all hell is gonna break lose.. and everyone knows it...
The left will go berserk. If Judge K. does not get confirmed the loons will rejoice and we conservatives and registered repubs will punish the republican midterm candidates and whine on blogs.
If the Judge is not confirmed then we all must understand that the dark rabbit hole was descended into and that it has caved in on this Republic.
Yes. If Judge K gets confirmed the left will go "berserk"! But, if he doesn't - the left will feel even more empowered. Thus, making them MORE "berserk" - because it had worked.
"Celebrate"? The Kavanaugh family had been threatened literally to death and completely humiliated. Quite a price for maintaining their resolve and standing for their principles. And the hate will not end w/ the Swearing In ceremony. The threats will continue as they have w/ DT.
There's another concern I'll raise after tomorrow's event.
i missed the beginning of Collin's speech on Kavanaugh but caught the final @1/2 hour. Was a little surprised that I liked some of what she had to say, but there was some of it not very pleasing - like;
. Kavanaugh has record of having protected the ACA in his past rulings
. he's also big on precedent being established law, citing Article 3 of the constitution as his reasoning. I hear that to mean he's not so much a constitutional originalist, and sees case law precedent as superior to original intent. NOT GOOD at all imo...
so.... considering those two pretty important things, seems to me the left even wins with his confirmation.
Larry, this is why I say there is something, just something about him, we need him and I now feel pretty sure he will win... It's another one of those damned if ya do, damned if ya don't...
I think K is a moderate.
yes Suzie, seems so as far as depending on scotus for restoring constitutional intent. I think that pretty well applies across the board for government institutions - none of them are naturally inclined to reduce their ill-gained authority. That pretty well leaves it up to our culture to insist on it, which kinda makes Alyssa Milano's comment more relevant than most will find it.
imo - the important win in all this is that their temper tantrums didn't win in this event. One time probably won't make them stop but at least their childish petulance was still deemed unacceptable this time.
"mo - the important win in all this is that their temper tantrums didn't win in this event. One time probably won't make them stop"
That's for damned sure! Did they stop w/ Bork; or Thomas? Did they stop when they controlled the House and Senate; or when the country voted for its first black potus who was/is a radicapl democrat- socialist to boot?
So...the 5/4 balance has been secured, right?
Hmmm...Here's my concern. Chief Justyce John Roberts. The one that REWROTE and saved Obamacare - w/ a flick of his pen. With everything that has occurred going back to the accusations that ran O'reilly out of Fox News till the present - I really started wondering more strongly what is it "they" might have on Roberts. In today's extremely corrupt and hostile environment - NOTHING'S out of the realm of possibilities!
Yeah, the hard part of getting K appointed is over. Now, it gets even HARDER!
yeah, I've occasionally wondered about Roberts' motive/rumors too. That was pretty suspicious behavior on his part. It's kinda easy to suspect maybe he didn't want to get disappeared or outed in some way. -- also about that rumor and it's possible validity--> imo, the recent choreographed petulant/radical behaviors surrounding Kavanaugh well demonstrates the highest priority of SCOTUS within the progressives' agenda and gives credibility to the 'pillowing' of Justice Scalia theory. ...when otherwise it'd be a little 'too far out there' for serious consideration. It just doesn't appear to me anything is going too far for them - ends justifying the means yaknow.
been watching hurricane Michael since before it organized and hoping it'd bring us some more rain - to further recover from this year's drought. Saw yesterday it is headed your way and thought about the winds you'll get, but today they're talking about a 2-4foot storm surge for Tampa. ..which reminds me of our recent conversation about how flat it is there. Is your place on stilts? ;' / Hope it goes well for ya! ya gonna go away for a couple days?
To the Honorable Justice Bret Kavanaugh and his family:
Congratulations on a well deserved, and earned, appointment to the highest court of the land. The uglyness that you and your family had so unjustly endure goes beyond the realms of common decency.
Thank you, Justice Kavanaugh, for decades of dedication to maintain your Oath to protect, adhere to, and abide by the Constitution of our not-very United States of America. Thank you for neither giving-in or giving-up as so many in Washington have throughout the decades; and, very sadly, still do.
You and your family are true patriots. And the mental and emotional attacks that you've all endured is, in my opinion, equivalent to those that have fought on a battlefield. I am saddened that what should be a day of celebration will likely be a simple day of momentary relief and a deep and humble gratitude to all that stood and stayed unwaveringly by your side.
The scales of Justice may remain balanced because you stand along with the others like Gorsuch, Alito and Clarence Thomas.
God Bless you; and God Bless America

Luis, A great letter to the Judge.
Very Well Written,
Maybe post it as a discussion- I can blast and others can send- that is if you want to share it...
