Initially, the Kurds expanded their territory in Iraq by nearly 40% when the advance of ISIS began – now ISIS is taking it from them again – click map to enlarge.
The story in Iraq gets more bizarre by the day. Kurdish territory in Iraq are the only pro-American territory left. Yet the US worries it will splinter off into Kuridistan. Apparently it's better to have a raging civil war as long as the country stays together in one theoretical piece.
This is where the story gets really bizarre. To avoid the appearance of the US giving arms to the Kurds, instead the US will give the Kurds Russian-made arms via the CIA.
Excuse me for asking, but what about sanctions on Russia?
While pondering that question, please consider US to directly arm Kurdish peshmerga forces in bid to thwart Isis o....
The Obama administration has announced it will arm the militia forces of Iraqi Kurdistan, to prevent the fall of the final bastion of pro-US territory in Iraq.Heaven forbid a stable pro-US country with oil reserves might come out of this. Who could possibly want that?
The weaponry is said to be light arms and ammunition, brokered not through the department of defense – which supplies Baghdad and its security forces with heavy weaponry – but the Central Intelligence Agency, which is better positioned to supply the Kurdish peshmerga with Russian-made guns like AK-47s that the US military does not use.
The CIA declined to comment.
The idea of arming the Kurds has been the subject of weeks of internal deliberation and official silence by Barack Obama’s foreign policy advisers. It is a fateful step in Iraq’s current crisis, one that risks facilitating the long-term disintegration of Iraq. Several administrations over decades have refrained from arming the peshmerga due to concerns about reprisals from Saddam Hussein and his successors. US officials have demurred for days when asked about the deliberations.
The danger is that arming the peshmerga will facilitate a permanent fragmentation of Iraq, something the Kurds consider a national aspiration. Several disputed and multi-ethnic cities in northern Iraq complicate any peaceful cleavage, as do major oil holdings in both Kurdish and contested territory. The Peshmerga used the June disintegration of Iraqi Army forces running from Isis as an opportunity to seize disputed areas like oil-rich Kirkuk.
it is funny if it wasn't so damn of indication of the lies and more lies that the US gov't is willing to tell. So lets see -- if things go south with the Kurd's as in not doing the bidding of the US gov't then the US gov't can point the finger and say Russia armed the Kurd's its all their fault.
The Kurd's have made no secret that they want a sovereign nation of their own. During the Bush years he promoted protecting the Kurd's. Recall that Bush at one point believed Iraq should be broken up. Also during the Iraqi war one of the narratives was that Iran would have its way with Iraq.
Now O is negotiating with Iran and I bet they are asking Iran to take on ISIS as well.
This is the way our "Spooks" operate so the USA is "is able to say" they don't supply arms, they first buy them (mostly AK-47's and other light armament from the Russians.
This way, when the USA is blamed for insurrection they can point to the Russian Arms that are found and step aside :)
Another, damaging method of "Black Ops" was in Vietnam . . . . "Air America", the Spooks "airline" flew drugs, primarily opium, to the USA, sold it to Drug Dealers who sold it in Inner City's, primarily . . . a way to fund "Black Ops", off the books. You could say, with accuracy, the CIA started the opium epidemic in order to fund themselves . . . all off the books.
The CIA buys Russian weapons and provides them to our "friends" (Kurds, etc.) . . . if discovered they can always say Russia fomented the war(s).
Check out #15 on this article, United Shipbuilding (Russian Company) is a major arms supplier throughout the world, except for Ghaddafi's weapons caches that were sold by "the witch" as SOS . . . the primary reason she was instrumental in the overthrow of Libya.
I hold the belief that "the witch" as SOS had McCain at her back.
Interesting interview on Kurds & Turkey ;
Thanks James good video. This entire Islamic can of worms is very complex. The Kurds are used and the Kruds use others in hopes of creating a sovereign Kurd nation. I remain behind our President's decision. To many bad actors that keep suckering the U.S. into engagement. Truth to me is none of the suckering interest care a fig about the USA.
We are a money bag to be robbed and the military complex and private warrior contractors rake in $$'s as well.
Sympathy for the Kurds will not end well for them.
I do not think it would have been prudent to keep U.S. military in harm's way I do think the Turks were determined. The Kurds seem to be receiving support from the U.S. and Russia. Now the Kurds seem to be of two political persuasions.
We have some 60 - 70 thousand troops in the ME so we haven't gone far. What the heck do folks want a war with Turkey?
I expect those of the hawkish type and boosters of the military complex to show their colors around the withdrawal. The dems outrage is about oh good we can beat on Trump. Where were the dems while O was in office? AOL. The dems have no standing.
Look it is cheaper since the U.S. military has mighty weapons in their arsenal to strike any resurgence of IS without troops on the ground. If the CIA has their ducks in a row and not focused on taking down a duly elected potus of the US we should be fine as for the Kurds some may have to relocate from Turkey.
The USA should not have the wars that have gone on for centuries on her shoulders.
Many of the EU countries being viewed by me as totally spineless are going to have to grow a pair.
I just recently saw an interview with Rand Paul on this very subject & He stated that the Kurds are not a unified group just as with all human beings there are bad players amongst the Kurds as well ! Will try & find that interview & post it here . God Bless , found it ;
James so true Kurds are not a unified group. Good and bad folks amongst them. Lindsay convinced me today that we are supporting the bad ones and to a degree those considered good Kurds. LOL that my friend mirrors what the radical factions of Islam do all the time.
Let the beasts of Islam duke it out among themselves. G-d knows we [USA] are not far away from the core.
I guess don't know the old axiom you touched it last now you own it may be in play. I do wonder if russian arms being hawked by the cia is pissing off the congress folks who are up to their eyeballs with the military complex lobbyist.
It is so perplexing and above my grade to be able to comprehend the big picture.
Our president pulling troops I am all for that action.
Rich funny you should mention Air America after Nam it was sold to feller named Dell Smith then becoming Evergreen International they flew mail , Presidents & such ' such being drugs & arms to & from central & south America pretty sure involved in Iran Contra . Now I am not sure who or under what moniker is flying the spooks missions. Dell fell out of grace lost mail & firefighting contracts all or most of his legit businesses owing lots of money filed bankruptcy & dissolved . Left a lot of folks here in McMinnville holding the bag !
My guess is the CIA is still running its "air service" as Spooks always have alternative ways to "get around".
