What everybody needs to know about our Constitution and gun control, a Liberals View.

An Open Letter to Juan Williams;

Dear Juan you are wrong about your facts and the conclusion you draw. First you say;


The only opinion that matters here is the Supreme Court’s opinion. And the high court has ruled, several times, that the president, the Congress, state and local government all have the power to regulate guns.

This is wrong. The only opinion that matters is we the people, we have a representative Republic not a monarchy. If your statement is true then Dred Scott is still a valid argument for Slavery. Even the Supreme court is often wrong

Your next point;

Article II of the U.S. Constitution clearly grants Obama and any other president the authority and the discretion to issue executive orders with the force of law over the sale of guns and ammunition.

No it does not Article II Sec. One gives the executive power to the President and determines how he is selected, Sec. Two Makes him Commander in Chief, and grants him the power to make treaties with foreign nations and appoint people to certain offices; both with the consent of the Senate.

Your third Point;

According to Pew, 85% of Americans, a roughly equal numbers of Democrats and Republicans, favor universal background checks on gun buyers including at gun shows. The survey also found that preventing people with mental illness from buying guns is backed by 80% of Americans, including 86% of Republicans and 78% of Democrats.

In opposing these common-sense gun safety measures under consideration by President Obama, the NRA is not only at odds with the general public, it is also at odds with its own membership.

Anyone with a Concealed Carry permit has had a background check done by their county Sheriff or Probate judge, paying for an additional check is not necessary, Anyone without a CCW permit must get a background check at the gun show. That is a false argument and an outright lie. The NRA does not support the sales of guns to the mentally ill as you claim, which is why membership in the NRA continues to climb.

Your fourth statement;

In spite of an avalanche of facts, some gun extremists still insist the Constitution does not allow the president to propose or enact – through executive action – gun control laws.

The 2nd says the A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed. The 9th says The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people. and the 10th The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

So my question to you is what part of SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED; RETAINED BY THE PEOPLE; or RESERVED TO THE STATES RESPECTIVLY, OR TO THE PEOPLE;  do you not understand.

In spite of your desires Mr. Obama is not a King. He is still accountable to the Constitution and the People.

I'm fine with background checks but when they use "universal" I get worried. To me, there is an implication of going deeper into a person's life than just arrests and mental health. Also, any poll saying Americans by some percentage agree with something is really saying Americans agree with a vague undefined question. Provide specifics and see what the real agreement ratio is.

From 1971 to 1979, 300,000
Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and


Cambodia established gun control in 1956.
From 1975 to 1977, one
million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up
and exterminated..
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th
Century because of gun control: 56 million.
