“Why do the heathen rage”
Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed . . . Psalm 2 King James Version (KJV)
A shooting during a gaming event at a popular shopping center in Jacksonville, Fla., killed two people and wounded several others before the gunman killed himself, investigators confirmed.
11 people were transported to hospitals with injuries, including nine with gunshot wounds.
What can be said? I am aghast . . . Again !
While doing a funeral during our first pastorate 1980 the Baptist pastor preached the service, I was riding with him to the grave site I was preforming the committal portion. I was moved by his compassionate words he had just preached. I have remembered his response ever since, “we can do no more for the deceased, we can only comfort the living.”
We are faced again with evil actions by an evil person!
As the political and social justice pundits debate the issues I am sure the REAL ISSUE will again completely miss the major and ultimate issue of EVILE in the minds of mankind.
The amazing thing about this paradox of love overcoming evil is that it leads us to the answer of why God allows evil.
The answer is found in the cross.
Suffering and physical death are not good, but neither are they evil in and of themselves. In fact, through the cross, suffering and death can be redemptive. That is, they can help us to re-capture some of the purity, love and holiness that we are created for. The Cross of Jesus is God’s answer to evil. In it, He conquers and shows us how to overcome evil. http://www.aggiecatholicblog.org/2015/08/when-looking-into-the-face...
I read the above article after the 2015 Shooting of a tv anchor live on assignment.
Jesus of Nazareth look evil in the eye in the wilderness; “Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” (Matthew 4:1 NIV)
From the Cross Jesus said: “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” Luke 23:34
My point is “compassion” not for the evil or evil doer. Though Jesus said to forgive “them” for the lies, the beatings, the mockery and even the Cross!
But “compassion” for the living, pray for the hurting and grieving because of this EVIL.
Mighty and merciful God remove from me any vengeance from my heart. Let not such evil dwell in us because of the evil in our world. Indwell in me, yes, in us all your Spirit of Love. More over compassion for the living. Almighty Lord make us an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. Where there is sadness, joy.
Matt. 5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
“blessed are those who bring their pain to God and Christ our Healer.” (James Robertson)
